Am I Allowed To Cry? w/Debut & Rep Too {both}

Here's how Taylor described the list:

Am I Allowed To Cry?

“This playlist takes you through the songs that I’ve written when I was in the bargaining stage… times when, you know, you’re trying to make deals with yourself or someone that you care about. You’re trying to make things better, you’re often times feeling really desperate because often times we have a sort of gut intuition that tells us things are not going to go the way we hope which makes us desperate which makes us bargain more.”

  • The Great War, This Is Me Trying, Peace, The Archer, Cornelia Street, Death By A Thousand Cuts, Soon You’ll Get Better, Afterglow, I Wish You Would, Say Don’t Go, Come Back… Be Here, Better Man, The Story Of Us, Haunted, Come In With The Rain, The Other Side Of The Door, If This Was A Movie, Renegade

And we talked about the ones that should be added from Reputation:

  • Don't Blame Me, Call it What you Want, King of my Heart, Getaway Car, New Years Day

Now let's look at Debut and what songs could be considered the bargaining stage of grief (as described by Taylor).

Invisible

After some deliberation I put this in bargaining rather than sadness, because the song reads like a persuasive essay.

The first verse tells this person what this other girl can't do or see and ends with

And you can't see me wantin' you the way you want her

The gauntlet has been thrown.
Some compare and contrast:

And I just wanna show youShe don't even know youShe's never gonna love you like I want to

But if he gives Taylor a chance, the result would be positive:
And you just see right through me but if you only knew me...
Instead of just invisible
Right now, Taylor is invisible to this person.

There's a fire inside of youThat can't help but shine throughShe's never gonna see the lightNo matter what you do

hmmmmm, here's this inner light or fire, that's come up a few times.

 example:  Hey Stephen

This other person is also invisible.

She's never going to see you or really know you.
But unlike that girl, Taylor is preoccupied with how to see this person.

Like shadows in a faded lightOh we're invisible

They're both invisible.  Whether or not the genders are same sex, it's a very queer song, speaking of being othered, and marginalized.  Feeling unseen.
I just wanna open your eyesAnd make you realize

Baby let me love you, let me want you".

She can't see the way your eyesLight up when you smile

Taylor makes a case for why the other girl is inadequate to meet the crush's needs.  Then she sets fourth how she would do better.  Pick her.
